USPA NEWS - This year's Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are held in Marrakech, Morocco, October 9-15, 2023.
Since the devastating earthquake in Morocco on September 8, the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff have worked in close coordination with the Moroccan authorities and a team of experts to assess Marrakech’s capacity to host the 2023 Annual Meetings. At this very difficult time, it is believed that the Annual Meetings also provide an opportunity for the international community to stand by Morocco and its people, who have once again shown resilience in the face of tragedy.
Based on a careful review of the findings, the Managements of the WB and the IMF, together with the Moroccan authorities, have agreed to proceed with holding the 2023 Annual Meetings in Marrakech. Today, HM, the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI is participating in a special session of the Moroccan Parliament, to discuss the outcomes and strategy amid the earthquake that struck Morocco, on 8th September.
We publish the full text of the press Marrakech Declaration upon the debates held since the 9th of October
